Australian Missiles to power uP Defence Force's range

Australian Missile Industry - Range and Mobility

Australia is rapidly expanding its sovereign long-range strike capability through the development and manufacture of advanced guided weapons. Under the 2026 National Defence Strategy, the Australian Government is investing in domestic production of missiles for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), including the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and future Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) capabilities.

A major milestone was achieved with the successful test firing of the first Australian-made GMLRS missile from an Australian HIMARS launcher, demonstrating the nation's growing sovereign manufacturing capability. Australia is also partnering with the United States to enable future domestic production of the Precision Strike Missile, significantly extending the Australian Defence Force's ability to strike targets at long range.

These investments form part of the Government's broader Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise, which is building an end-to-end sovereign ecosystem encompassing missile manufacturing, testing and evaluation, logistics, sustainment, workforce development and industrial infrastructure. Together, these initiatives are strengthening Australia's defence industrial base while creating new opportunities for Australian manufacturers and regional industry to support the nation's future long-range strike capability.
