Supporting the Australian Missile Industry

Established to support the Commonwealth Government’s initiation of the Sovereign Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise, in collaboration with the AUKUS Forum, the Missile Industries Corporation (MissileCorp) champions the cause by forging robust collaborations. Our industry networks span the width and breadth of Australia and around the world, ranging from state governments, esteemed academic institutions, nimble Australian Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to major Australian and international corporate giants.

Our Mission: To bring together Australian industry and local capabilities to support the proficient design, manufacture, test, sustainment, training, storage, and disposal activities of cutting-edge guided weapons and explosive ordnance, helping to ensure that the Australian Defence Force (ADF) always has the upper hand.

Our Vision: To build collaboration across Australian industry in the support of a Sovereign Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Enterprise that stands as a beacon of efficiency, resilience, and swift responsiveness to the dynamic needs of the Australian Defence Force, while fostering an acceleration in homegrown capabilities.

On 5 April 2022, a significant stride was made with the Australian Government's official onboarding of Raytheon Australia and Lockheed Martin Australia as foundational strategic allies in the ambitious GWEO Enterprise endeavour.

A key recommendation of the Defence Strategic Review is to accelerate and expand weapons systems, including land-based maritime strike and long-range missile launchers – to be complemented by investments to replenish weapons and explosive ordnance stocks and to establish in-country missile and munition manufacturing facilities in Australia.

The establishment of the GWEO Enterprise, in the initial phases, will be reliant on support and assistance from the US – but in the longer term, success will be measured by its self-reliance and sustainability in Australia, specifically the realisation of a sustainable domestic manufacturing capability and, ultimately, foreign military and commercial sales.

Another of the Defence Strategic Review recommendations is for the ADF to move to an ‘integrated force’ model, which harnesses effects across all five domains – maritime, land, air, space and cyber – reshaping Australian missile defence and modernising it for the current strategic circumstances.

The Commonwealth Government has outlined the objectives for Australia’s future GWEO Enterprise -

  • maximise lethal capability from our current Australian missile stocks
  • build our own manufacturing base in Australia to enhance self-reliance and supply chain resilience for GWEO;
  • protect Intellectual Property (IP), Technical Data (TD) and sensitive technology owned by domestic and international sources;
  • deliver whole-of-nation enhancements across not just manufacturing but also maintenance, infrastructure, research and development and test and evaluation.
  • appropriately manage risk to the Commonwealth and achieve value for money.
