Australia invests in powerful new high-tech missile technologies

Australia is accelerating investment in next-generation missile technologies to deliver a more capable and sovereign long-range strike force. Building on the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise, the Australian Government is investing in advanced precision-guided weapons, hypersonic technologies, autonomous systems and future missile capabilities that will enhance the Australian Defence Force's ability to deter and respond to emerging threats.

Current priorities include the domestic production of long-range precision strike missiles, the co-development of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) with the United States, expansion of Australia's guided weapons manufacturing base, and continued investment in hypersonic research and advanced propulsion technologies. Defence is also increasing support for counter-drone systems, directed-energy technologies and integrated air and missile defence to address rapidly evolving battlefield threats.

These investments are creating a sovereign ecosystem spanning research, advanced manufacturing, testing and evaluation, logistics, sustainment and workforce development. For Australian industry, they represent significant opportunities to contribute to the design, production and support of the next generation of missile and defence technologies, strengthening both national security and Australia's advanced manufacturing capability.
